Christopher Cozier – Artiste visuel et conférencier

Né en 1959 à Trinidad, Christopher Cozier est plasticien et essayiste. Après ses études en graphisme, il obtient le diplôme du Maryland Institute of Art de Baltimore et la Mason Gross School of Art de l’Université de New Jersey. Depuis plusieurs années, il participe à de nombreuses expositions sur l’art contemporain dans la Caraïbe et à travers le monde.

Dans ses oeuvres, il utilise aussi bien la vidéo, les performances que des dessins, des installations et des objets. La migration des populations est l’un de ses sujets favoris. Ses installations dénoncent, sur un ton dérisoire, les notions de propriété matérielle de nos sociétés.

Christopher Cozier a publié plusieurs textes dans de nombreux catalogues et journaux dont Small Axe, une revue d’art contemporain dans la Caraïbe, publié et distribué par les Presses de l’Université de l’Indiana (www.smallaxe.net. Il a également été conseiller à l’édition du magazine BOMB aux Etats-Unis (2003 à 2005).

Récompensé en 2004 par le Prix de la Fondation Pollock-Krasner, Christopher Cozier enseigne dans plusieurs institutions et travaille de concert avec plusieurs jeunes artistes plasticiens, designers et de dessinateurs. Un vidéaste et écrivain canadien, Richard Fung, réalise en janvier 2006 un court documentaire sur son œuvre, intitulé « L’Art dérangeant de Christopher Cozier ».

Membre du Senior Research Fellow à l’Académie de l’Université de Trinidad et Tobago (UTT), Christopher Cozier vit et travaille aujourd’hui à Trinidad.

Christopher Cozier is an artist and writer living and working in Trinidad.

He has participated in a number of exhibitions focused upon contemporary art in the Caribbean and internationally. Since 1989 he has published a range of essays on related issues in a number of catalogues and journals. He is on the editorial collective of “Small Axe, A Caribbean Journal of Criticism”, published and distributed by the Indiana University Press.

The artist has been an editorial adviser to “BOMB” magazine for their Americas issues (Winter, 2003, 2004 & 2005) A documentary produced by Canadian video artist and writer, Richard Fung entitled "Uncomfortable: the Art of Christopher Cozier" was launched in Toronto in January 2006.

The artist is a Senior Research Fellow at the Academy of The University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) and was Artist-in-Residence at Dartmouth College during the Fall of 2007.

- and the next is called "little gestures" it is actually a rubber stamp.

To use this image all you have to do is place it in the center of an empty white background...with the image no bigger than 5 cm by 5 cm...

I will create an image using this stamp or derived from the stamp.
